<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> If you get the AOPA Pilot magazine there's an article on the mew LSA design from Chris. Called the Patriot, it differs from traditional CH designs by having a vertical stabilizer/rudder instead of the all-flying rudder we're are used to seeing. Quite an attractive a/c, not like the 701 (not that the 701 doesn’t have its charms).

High-wing, almost 33 foot span, 118 kt cruise, stall (clean) at 40 kts, price to be in $90 to $95K range. Looks better than the Cessna LSA offering to me.

  Should be at OSH.

Can you do a scan and post a pic? I can't find a single reference to it on ZAC/s or AMD's websites, although I see it listed as an Oshkosh attraction. I'm very curious!

All, The way the article kindof reads, is this might be the CH750 that we had heard rumors about, around 1-1/2 years ago.
There were indications that it was about 10-15% bigger than the 701, and would fit the LSA requirements closer than the 701 does now, (for speed and Gross Weight)

I guess we will just have to wait and see.

Take care, all of you going to OSH, and think about us that are unable to go. (like me) it never fails, I have TDY travel about this time every year for the last 12 years. Go figure.

I sat in the new AMD Patriot when I was in Eastman and stirred the controls. Speaking as a person who prefers low wing airplanes, the high wing doesn't intrude too much on the visibility. I imagine that flight schools would love it. Some of the old buzzards on the ramp at "Heart of Georgia" thought it was easier to get in and out of the Patriot than a 601, but I never found it difficult to get in and out of a 601. However, compared to other high wing LSAs, entry and exit are a snap! I had nightmares after one ride in a Legend Cub.

However, the biggest drawback to the Patriot is the same one that burdens the 601: No cup holders! How could anyone design a modern airplane without cup holders? (It is NOT a matter of weight!)

601 Builders, what have you done about the tragic lack of cup holders in our design? --

I was saving this for the first flight report, but what the heck - I intend to install a PC in the instrument panel, on the passenger side.
I love those electrically activated cup-holder-trays they have in PCs ! !

				Gig,
Thanks much, it's a nice looking aircraft but a bit high in price when
compaired to the other light sport aircraft on the market. What I don't
understand is why they are puting flight instruments in that are required
for instrument flying when the sport pilot rules say no instrument or night
flying. I had a Zenith Zodiac601XL built by a man in Oklahoma who does this
for a living at a cost of $76,000 but there are almost no flight
instruments. I have a full compliment of engine instruments but flight
instruments are air speed, altimeter, rate of climb and tachometer which is
all I need to fly in fair weather day time.

				tracy
just because it is sport pilot certified does not mean VFR only pilots. I wwould like the LSA cessna or AMD patriot or 601xl ifr, cause some pilots are not limited. its just a more affordable plane than a 172. also an LSA pilot can fly a vfr rate 601xl
 just not under IFR conditions.

				Tracy,

Some of my best memories (not necessarily fondest memories) are
flights where I was legal VFR but couldn't see anything out the
windshield. In cases like this, if you don't have any gyro
instruments to fly on you can't keep the plane upright. This is not
IFR because you can see far enough to avoid other airplanes - you
just can see enough to fly your own plane.

This is an excellent reason to equip a VFR only plane for IFR
conditions. It doesn't call for the tight standards applied to
certified IFR planes, but a few gyros are a "Must" for any plane I
fly on long cross country flights. There is also the possibility of
accidental entry into instrument meteorological conditions
(IMC). Again, you need some gyros here to survive the
experience. Inadvertent flight into IMC is a popular way for GA
pilots to kill themselves. Over the typical year, only flying drunk
 kills more pilots.

My solution for my Zodiac is to install complete instrumentation in
the form of a Dynon 180.

 Good luck,

 Paul

They are not just building an LSA they are building a trainer. This is a replacement for the 150 that just happens to fit the LSA specs.

BTW. I wouldn't be advertising," I had a Zenith Zodiac601XL built by a man in Oklahoma who does this for a living at a cost..."

Some FSDO might just come and yank your AW certificate.

Just another question, is there anything wrong with building a 601XL and getting the AW then selling the aircraft? I understand that the buyer can not get the AW certificate as he did not build 51%. Jerry - GA

Sure you can and you aren't even getting close to breaking the FARs if you built it solely for your own education or recreation.
 Experimental certificates.

Experimental certificates are issued for the following purposes:

 (g) Operating amateur-built aircraft. Operating an aircraft the major portion of which has been fabricated and assembled by persons who undertook the construction project solely for their own education or recreation.
