Are there any KF members around Warner Robins, Georgia that would like to give me a lesson in their plane on presidents weekend Jan 19-21, while my wife is running a marathon? We'll be coming from Alaska where I'm learning to fly my KF Series 5 when I can pin my CFI down for instruction, which isn't often. My wife Debbie runs marathons around the country when she can and when I can get away with her I try to do something for me too.If there's anyone in the area who would like to help me out please e-mail back.

Out of curiosity, how would insurance work if I let you take a lesson with my Kitfox? Anyone know?

				Lane
Send me a note closer to the date. Not sure what the Mrs will have planned.
I’m based a little over an hour away (via Kitfox). I have a Series 7.

For Experimental Aircraft every policy I have seen is for "Named Pilots Only". All pilots must be named on the insurance policy and the rate is figured off the lowest experience or worst history pilot.

Most insurance will not cover giving instruction to others. They are also
usually for the named pilot only. The EAA insurance is definitely that way
as I was going to put an instructor on my policy to instruct my father and
the insurance would not cover it. However what they don't know they don't
 complain about.

Except if you ever expect to collect. Why carry and pay for a premium that will never pay off.

I remember reading something about renter's insurance. Is there an equivalent that would cover the airplane in this situation. I'd be happy to loan my airplane to a fellow looking to learn in a Kitfox but I'd feel allot better about it if I knew the airplane would be covered if it got bent..

I think this last comment is spot on. I just went through the claim process
and thorough is not even close to the scrutiny you will be put to by the FAA
as well as the insurance carrier.

I have allowed the use of my airplane for check rides twice. Never for
primary training, but in both instances the flight instructor-check pilot's
name as well as the checkee's name was on the policy and the Checkee never
flew as PIC. The insurance policy premium was increased for the entire year
portion remaining based on the minimum experience and reverted back to me
being named pilot, only upon reapplying for the policy with the application
required giving hours, named insured, etc.

But, I must agree that insurance and the premiums paid do you no good
what-so-ever --- until you need it.

And not paying the approximately $600 (about $5400) additional annual
premium over liability would have put me permanently out of flying. And it
scares the "you know" what out of me at this point not having it (or having
disqualifying circumstances) and even the thought of giving rides to non
family members chills me at this point. I quake wondering what my financial
position would be right now if the injured right seat passenger had not been
my wife. I have even thought of not putting in the right seat in the case I
build again. This after 1000 hours of care free uneventful flying and tons
of rides with friends. I wonder about the poor soul flying the overloaded
Bonanza that killed two of his best friends riding in the back seat, the
 same day we went down.

Incidentally, I learned today, the two same day accidents out of Cameron
Park made the top ten news stories in El Dorado County here, according to
 the Mountain Democrat.

Nothing anyone on this list says makes any difference, Luis. You
need to check with your insurance company--their opinion is the only
 one that matters.
