  We were south of the peak a few miles.  My  terminology, using "crest" loosely, mislead you.  Sorry.  It is  obvious that I was already high enough at 7640' to clear this southern portion  of Sandia mountain ahead of us.  John H. and his "steel trap" memory can  correct me if I am confused on where I think we were.
