				Hi 701-ers,

I'm starting my second 701 project. The former owner passed away after starting the tail feathers and I bought the rest of the kit from his estate.

I'm in the market for a good engine. My preference, listed in order is below:

 1. Rotax 912 ULS
 2. Rotax 912 UL
 3. Jabiru 2200
 4. Continental 0-200 (but I think it's too heavy for a 701)
 5. VW Conversion.

So if you hear of anything out there that I might be able to afford, please let me know.

 Thanks,
 Tommy Walker in Alabama

I'm looking to put the Suzuki G13bb engine with the Raven re-drive system in my 701 as well. From what I've read there is not much, if anything, bad to say about the engine. My problem has been locating one with low mileage. I've seen a few with nice car bodies attached to them, but I'd prefer to have just the engine.

A builder in my EAA chapter has a Suzuki 1.3L in a Loehle 5151.

He had called out to a auto salvage operation in Arizona that specializes in
 collecting engines for aero-conversion.

He just called them up, told them what engine he wanted, and they did all
the work finding one that was low milage and suitable.

I'll see if I can find out more from my friend.
 Good luck!

I have converted a few of the 1.0L for others after I did one for myself.
They are good conversions but what I suggest is that you shop on ebay or at
JDM sites for engines imported from the Japanese Domestic Market. You can
usually find a 1.3L for about $400 to $1100 with less than 30,000 miles. The
harness assy and computer you can get from a local junk yard or auto
 recycler pretty cheap.

Thanks for the info. I do have a couple of local salvage yards keeping an eye out for me for a low time engine and have been checking e-bay and Craigslist. John, if you an get a contact number for the auto salvage place in Arizona, let me know.

				Southern Fly,
This may be of interest to you. I got it form the 601 side if the Hizz-Aaa:

 Engine package:
last flown on April 19. The most recent condition inspection was done
in March 08. Lockwood Aviation serviced the engine in December 07.
There is no visible or otherwise known damage. I will sell the firewall
forward, the canopy assembly and any non-structural components. The fwf
is a "Skyshop" clone (912ULS with vacuum pump, prop extension, hd
starter, air box, slipper clutch, Woodcomp composite prop and spinner
and composite upper and lower cowlings).

I don't want to start anything, I think the Corvair is an awesome engine. I was going to use one my self. Right up until I started thinking how the 701 can be flown. If your going to always use 1000 ft of strip to land and take off. Then its great, but as is the Corvair/701 combo will weigh in the neighborhood of 670lbs And this is with out the 5th bearing, which in my opinion is needed on the 701 ,so add another 15-20 lbs to the weight.

Now that corvair 5th bearing and all, would fit right into a 750!

				Kevin,
I will have a 4340 billet crankshaft available in July for the Corvair.
In August I will have Forged 4340 crankshafts available for the Corvair.
By the end of this summer I will have the lightest & the strongest Corvair available. I am betting money that it will weigh less than a Jabiru 3300 and have more power. Not that a 701 needs more power. But I will fly this engine in my 701.

If you have the chance; come out to the Arlington Air Venture and take a look at what we have going on. If you are interested you can check out my website :www.magnificentmachine.com

It doesn't have to be heavy,
 Brady
