Thanx Ben and Jeff. The advice worked great! Just eased off on
the straps which allowed the sheet metal to conform nicely to the nose
ribs (with a bit of tender caressing) popped in few cleecos on the
nose ribs to hold in place, retightened straps and proceeded with
rest of skin in the normal fashion. The extra straps distributed
the load nicely over the skin which resulted in a near perfect airfoil.

I just dont think my neighbors were too impressed when I ran up and
down the street with my cleecoed elevator held over my head, laughing
deliriously.

Up for a couple more rookie questions?

1) Had to move the first drill hole on each nose ribs as 10mm as
managed to hit dimples. What is best way to fill an unwanted hole
in the skin? I assume automotive aluminum body filler doesnt cut in
on an aircraft?

2) Final tolerance check was great except that the trailing tips of
both outboard ribs are up about 2mm. The rest of the elevator is
dead flat. Seems to fall within the 6mm tolerance allowed for
twist, but its not really twist. Im assuming this is OK (I guess
thats why Im installing a trim tab) but appreciate your thoughts.

Flying machines rock!

If you just need to plug a couple misdrilled holes you can use JB Weld,
Bondo, etc. it really doesn't matter. Once it's painted they won't be an
issue.
