One of my local flying buddies (who flies a single seat Falcon
ultralight) flies from a neighboring airfield that is right next to a
large state prison. In the last 5 years, he's had 3 forced landings in
the prison fields due to engine quits. The guards round up a few
inmates, and they come out to the field and carry his ultralight out.
They know him by name now. Even got his name and a picture of his
downed Falcon in the local paper, last occurrence. Breaks the monotony
of prison life, I suppose.

The Warwick, NY airport is across a small lake from a prison. I few my PPG
there a couple of times. The first time, a cop showed up as I was packing
up. Seems several people had called and reported... well, I'm not sure
what they reported, but it was obvious they had never seen a PPG
before. He said it was OK to fly there, but he wanted to make sure I
wasn't flying over the prison (I wasn't).

I seem to remember something in the regs about not overflying Federal prisons at less than 2000' AGL or something like that.
That would make it quite a problem on the approach end of a runway unless you have a Heli.

Ray:
Take a look at a sectional. Find a federal prison. See if there is a
restricted area around and/or above the prison. If there is, it should be
so noted on the sectional.
