I've searched and can't find it but somebody posted not long ago about a Dynon A/P install.

Gig,
I installed a Dynon D10A. Do you have a specific question?

Gig,

I have a Dynon D180 with both pitch and roll servos installed and working. The mechanical servo installation was per the TruTrack guides. The electrical hook-up and programming per the Dynon instructions was also straight forward. Lance Gingell also has the Dynon A/P and was one of Dynon's beta testers.

Pics attached.

Dave, other than what came from Dynon, which I assume was just the servos, did you make up a parts list? And is there a link to the Trutrack install instructions?

Gig,

If the Dynon autopilot uses TruTrak servos, you can go to the TruTrak web site. More information there than you will ever need.

Gig,

Here is what you need for the physical installation of TruTrak servos in a 601XL.

Comparing Dave's pics to the TruTrack drawings there sure looks like there is some more stuff on Dave's elevator cable connection.

Gig,

David is correct. I'm beta testing for Dynon. My install is very similar to his excellent pictures.

The physical install of the roll servo is a 'drop in' for the trutrak. The pitch servo depicted in the trutrak documentation doesn't appear workable at all, so I did mine differently. David did his the same way. The only difference is that mine came with a little dark red pulley for the upper elevator cable INSTEAD of the apparent 4 flanged guide on David's (which looks easier to install!).

Oh, and what took you so long?....I was copying your ideas at the start!!! (just teasing!!).

Cheers,
..lance

I'm lazy and slow. No question about it. South Arkansas weather sucks it is either too cold or too hot. And the wiring has been kicking my butt which other than hooking up the wings is really all I have to finish.

I hate wiring so much that now I want to add the both roll and pitch servos. Did a I mention that I was a masochist as well.

To paraphrase the great Samuel L Jackson in the best airplane movie in years, "I'm sick and tired of the Mutha Fracking WIRES in this Mutha Fracking Plane."

Gig,

The aluminum support structure required to mount the servos do not come from Dynon. You will fabricate them yourself. The roll servo needs the "generic push-pull mounting kit" to go with it. All it is are two rod end bearings and an aluminum tube to connect them. You can probably buy the parts individually from Spruce and save a few bucks. The capstan servo for pitch does not need any other hardware kit to go with it. Other than contorting yourself into the area behind the seats, the installation was not bad. I estimate I took about 8-10 hours for each servo.

Buy the more powerful SV42 servo for roll, not the SV32 that Dynon recommends. You will want the stronger servo for a 601. Same price, but a bit heavier. Mount the servo rod to the control stick arm as low as possible to get the most moment-arm force.

The SV32 capstan servo for pitch is adequate. I had to move one of the rudder cables up a tad to get clearance from the servo body. That explains the piece of aluminum riveted to the rear frame channel where the old through hole was.

Good luck,

So basicly,

SV32C (capstan), Retail
(Includes SV32C: 100754-002, Capstan Accessory Kit: 101116-
000)
$750 100854-002

SV42 (standard output arm), Retail
(Includes SV42: 101008-000, Limiting Bracket Kit: 101025-000)
$750 101058-000

AP74 Dedicated Autopilot Interface Module – Horizontal, Retail
(Includes AP74 Horizontal: 100756-001, AP74/AP76 Mounting
Tray: 101049-000, AP74/AP76 Connector Kit: 100831-004, 7/64
Hex Wrench: 100556-000)
$450 100852-001

I don't see a specific "generic push-pull mounting kit." Is that included in the SV42 kit?

Gig,

Look all the way to the bottom of Dynon's order/price form for the generic push-pull kit. It is clumped in with the RV install kits. You will need to purchase a 1/4X28 tap. The kit's aluminum tube gets custom fit by you for length, then tapped for the rod end bearings. I also had to buy some AN3H-3A drilled head bolts to mount the servos to the brackets. The servo's have threaded holes, so the bolt heads need safety wired. My picture above shows regular bolts there for the initial fit-up since I did not have the drilled head bolts on hand at the time.

Good luck,

Gig,

I did not install the AP74 module. That may be a project for next winter. I run mine all off the Dynon D180 buttons.

I do have the AP74. It is great. Install is pretty easy and you get audio outputs for altitude alerts/AP disconnected etc. You can use the knob for entering various values.

I really like the idea of the AP74. In fact if I personally would rather have it than pitch servo. I can trim a plane to fly straight and level a lot easier than I can punch a bunch of buttons on the Dynon.

That was always the only problem I had with the Dynon boxes was the lack of a knob.
