The placement of the pre-punched holes on my 801 rudder skins don't seem to be drilled very accuratly. 80% of the holes in a line are laid out on a common center line but the other 20% are offset by a couple of millimeters. It's not caused a real problem but I'm curious if this is par for the course? It's not a big deal but I expected more accuracy from CNC punched parts is all.

Hello Jake -- I am in the midst of building an 801. So far it has been a bad dream - but not quite a nightmare. The stories I can tell you. Keep trudging - it is still a great plane once it is finished.

				Hello,
Not my personal experience (building from plans), but I am told ZAC will replace bad parts at no charge.

May be worth a phone call...

Jake. A proper CNC punched skin should be more accurate then you can measure. I would take a fine line sharpie and draw a line through the good holes and project that out to the bad holes. Take a pic or two and email it to Zenith. They are wanting to produce a quality kit and feedback like this only helps them get better. My guy feeling is either the sheet slipped during the punching process or the program was incorrect.

Thanks guys, I appreciate the responses. So far I've only noticed a problem with the rudder spar (which they replaced) and both rudder skins (which are not bad enough to be replaced). I'll be starting the HS in a couple of days. I'll be keeping a close eye on the parts and if I run into any inconsistencies I'll let the company know.

I would second this! I'm building my doors, and while I can certainly figure
it out at this point (after building the rest of the kit for practice). The process
is look at the pics, manual, drawings - Figure out a revised plan in my
mind. Then build one door hoping it works, and then build the second
based on the learning experience from the first.

Most of Zenith's 801 instructions will not work as written, so I only use them
as a rough guide to get started.
