Hi,

I'm wanting to do the Outrigger Pivot Bearing mod in accordance with the Europa Club procedure. To do this I need some stainless steel tube with 0.375" outside diameter, 0.3125" inside diameter (a sliding fit for an AN5 bolt).

I seem to have drawn a blank in finding any of this over in the UK. I only need about 6" of it. Does anyone who has done this mod have any of this tube lying around spare? If you do, can you drop me a line please?

Regards,

Phil

Phil,

Good Old McMaster-Carr has it.

Part Number 1991T11
Type 440C SS Precision
Shim Bushing Stock 3/8"
OD, 5/16" ID, 6" Length
In stock at $90.11 Each

Yup, that's $90.11 for your 6 inch length
or about 56.62 GBP.

If you can't find it over on your side of the pond or anyplace else for less, I'll be glad to order it and ship it on to you .

Check six,
Bob Borger

Karl,

Yes, I know about the overseas shipment problem. That is why I offered to purchase the tubing and send it on to him.

I have a standing offer to all outside the U.S. to purchase and forward on any goods they can not purchase and have sent directly.

Best regards,
Bob

Phil & Raimo,

I've been looking for a source for your SS tubing.

So far, only McMaster carries 3/8" (0.375) OD x 5/16" (0.3125) ID (wall thickness 1/16" 0.03125) stainless steel tubing in stock. And it is expensive.

There are plenty of places that have stainless steel tubing that is 3/8 OD but with a wall thickness of 0.035. For instance, Aircraft Spruce has 304 SS tubing in those diameter for only $3.35/ft. Do either of you have a lathe available to drill/ream your short length to the proper interior diameter?

My offer still stands to purchase the stock from McMaster or any other other U.S. source and ship it on to you.

Check six,
Bob Borger

I've found onlinemetals.com, recently acquired by ThyssenKrupp NA, to
be an excellent source for small quantities of specialty metals and
plastics. They sell a 0.375" OD, 0.028" wall, 0.319" ID...SS 304/304L
tube (at) $3.78/ft. It is also available in SS 316/316L (at) $4.38/ft.

..can't help but wonder if such tubing may have been used in the
original mod if evidence of extraordinary expense for material or
special machining is lacking...

Fred
