As many of you know I am a Falconer, and the Firestar works well with finding places to fly my birds, check for game and access points in an area that is rather remote with very few roads and difficult land travel.

I am flying a Peregrine Falcon that is currently hunting Ducks, as the Pheasant is a very desirable and marketable commodity in this area. Pilgrims and city folk pay a good price, that many of the ranchers need, to shoot a couple of birds. That leaves Ducks, who are slowly being forced to move south by the dropping temps. as their resting and feeding places are icing over. Each storm that moves through the area, also moves the ducks as well, so it is not always guaranteed that ducks here today will be here tomorrow.

I do have an artesian lake across the road from me that supplies a lot of water and flows all year around and is of such volume that it does not freeze. Creeks supply way too many escape routes for Ducks, so its lakes, ponds, or disappointment on the creeks. The last two times that I have been there on the ground, we were the only ones there. The weather here today is actually pretty nice even though it is a bit nipply, 39 degrees, little or no wind. So I rolled out the Firestar to see if it was going to be football or hawking. I am pleased to report that there were ducks on the lake, so football will have to wait. There is a bit of a weather front moving across the Steen's, but that is for tomorrow. Even with just a bit of flying for fun, the whole thing took 12 minutes.

I do keep a blog with my adventures, both flying and Hawking that you are welcome to view at http://owyheeflyer.blogspot.com/ . My trip hunting will be loaded later this afternoon, good or bad, whichever works out. Most of the posts there are concerning Hawking now. The flying plane part is generally during the spring and summer.
