Hi All,
For those who have already "done it" could you please comment on how you finished the interior of your plane and whether you added any sound damping material and what type and how would you change it.
Thanks
Mike

Mike, for what it is worth:
I used a 'speckled' paint finish for the top of the interior. Consists of one coat grey primer, one coat 'speckled trunk paint' from Auto paint supply company, and then an overspray of clear polyurethane for abrasion protection. It looks decent, and is easy to apply to the compound curved surface. Doesn't supply any sound deadening though.
Floor is getting carpet, but I haven't flown with it yet with carpet. My plane is loud with the Mazda Rotary in it.

I used zolotone on the whole interior and had a local guy make some nice seat cushions. I use earplugs under an ANR headset.

For what it's worth
I didn't worry about noise dampening. That is what the noise cancelling headsets were for. No muffler. Zolotone speckled paint on the interior above the waterline. A nice upholstery fabric below the waterline adhered by a 3M spray type pressure sensitive adhesive. Carpet was a matching, removable and relatively stiff doormat type material from Home Depot.

Hi Mike,
I agree with the others. I also used Zolotone and and a layer of foil backed insulation on the cabin side of the firewall, mostly for heat radiation. If you don't have at least 3/8" thick windows and windscreen you won't get any measurable help from other insulation. Spend the money on Zulu or Bose and ear plugs, like Scott, if necessary. I use Clarity Aloft for added head clearance and they are ok in my TR-1 with an IO-240.
Scott, any updates on your phase one?

No update on my testing yet. I'm waiting to get my exhaust back and fixing a few little things. Hopefully I'll be able to fly late next week with my new exhaust and hopefully with lower oil temps.

Good luck! I am waiting on my prop to come back from Sensenich, probably another 4 weeks.

FWIW I think Dave got it right with the way he set it up. A good ANR headset is the way to go. I upgraded to the ZULU's and absolutely love them.

Mike, I put a sound absorbing blanket on the inside of the firewall. Then the floor was carpeted and the rest of the interior was covered with wool material. Even with this, I require a Noise cancelling headset. And yes, I would do it again. Kent
