This morning, I flew my Slingshot about 20 minutes SE of my home airport (9G0) to meet a friend who keeps his SkyRanger at Bloecher Farm airstrip (92NY). We had planned to fly in his SkyRanger to Great Valley (N56) but when we got about 10 miles or so away, it was apparent that Great Valley was completely fogged in. So we headed back north to look for a new airstrip not on the sectionals that another pilot friend had found on Google Maps. On Google Maps it appeared paved but that shot was apparently taken right after the compacted gravel runway had been sprayed with tar.
The video's first short segment is of this undocumented airstrip a few miles NE of Ellicottville, NY. It is situated up high in the hills so it was not fogged in. From there we flew to our favorite breakfast location, Middlesex Valley (4N2). It is a breakfast only, weekend only, summer only restaurant operated by the owner/residents of this beautiful grass strip in the Finger Lakes section of western New York.
Even though there are no Kolbs in this video I hope you enjoy it. What a great day for flying it was this morning!
