Group,
I made a test run on my new plane (M14P) and discovered two leaks at the interconnection of exhaust tubes. Opened the clamp and found the gasket having a little gap (about 0.2 inches) where the arrow-type ending of the strip should rest in his counter-shaped part of the gasket. The overlaying part of the gasket strip doesn’t seal this gap. I believe that’s where the blow out comes from. Could this be fixed with some sealing stuff or do I need a new gasket? Do these seals come in different sizes to suit the different diameter of the exhaust system?

Go to the hardware store and get yourself some galvanized steel flashing. It cuts and bends easily and will not burn though at exhaust temps. Than find your self some stainless steel tape. You can get it in 6" wide sheets that has adhesive one side. As thin as it is - it will not burn though. It too cuts easily.
What I did, was cut the galvanized steel 6 to 8 inches long and wide enough to cover the whole gap to fit between the raised flanges between pipe section. I than sealed the whole thing with the stainless steel tape. Than put the clamp back on. Do not worry about the glue on the tape burning off. The clamp holds everything together. You can continue to use 'arrow ending' gasket if you want. I ditched them.

Jill at M-14P can tell you about a fix using fiberglass strips that works well.

There is a interesting product sold through the auto racing catalogs that I tried. it is a .010 or less stainless sheet covered with carbon felt on both sides that can be cut to any size and length that will go around the exhaust. It looks like the perfect answer. Been there done that don't buy it. The exhaust blows off the carbon felt. I did however use thin stainless shim stock to make new ones that I overlapped to make the seal. I purchased the shim stock on line , ebay for a few bucks. Just mic your old stock as I can't remember what it was off hand. Keep cinching up the clamps after every flight for awhile until they seat. Also there should have been one of these stainless steel shims under the seal you speak about along with the arrow shaped top seal then the clamp.
