After the wash out in Sun n fun this year , i have actually convinced my
wife that the weather can not be that bad in July and we should go to
Oshkosh, ( first time for either of us ) , sadly I cant get enough fuel in
the KIS to fly over from Europe , so will come by Commercial airline, but I
look forward to seeing and meeting up with a few of you at the show.

Keith

Galin, I again wish to extend my invitation to stop by the Clinton Airport
(GLY) and overnight on the way to AirvVenture. My plans are to leave Clinton
around 8 AM, stop by Washington, Iowa for fuel and then go on to AirVenture.

Harry Cook, from Kerrville, and I have been doing this for the past 10 years
or so.

Kent Pyle, 354 SE 100th Road, Clinton, MO 64735 660-885-2176 Cell
660-351-2420

Harry, Galin has the Kis Cruiser that I was checked out in in order to meet
the insurance requirements for coverage for the first flight.

Kent

Hello Keith,

I do not think it has been done but it is possible to fly a KIS with standard tanks to Oshkosh from Europe. A long time ago I read a book written by a ferry pilot that had flown the Atlantic many time in small planes with stock tanks. If I recall correctly the longest leg is only about 550 miles.

So you should fuel up and go for it! Then tell us all about it.

Assuming you are right about the longest leg and having sufficient fuel
capacity, and assuming I had the required Instrument rating, an IFR
equiped KIS, HF Radio, Survival kit , Money for the fuel , i would never
manage to get the most important clearance "permission from my wife" .

Ray Clegg flew his Cruiser from England to Oskosh in 1993. He had extra tanks for a total of 120 gal.
See http://www.kisbuild.r-a-reed-assoc.com/  in "whats new" under 08/11/03 date
.
You forgot about permits to fly experimental plane over all the coutries on your way and , of course, the insurance money.
I remeber Ray Clegg complaining about some ridicuosly high insurance for a flight over Greenland. You could damage their invaluable snow
and ice in case of an accident.

One of the first builders flew a KIS from Europe and few years back to
Oshkosh. As I recall he took the front seat out and put a fuel tank there.
My memory is not even close to perfect so someone else may be able to add to
or correct this. Kent
