i want to personally thank mr bourne (big lar, as he is affectionately known
on the kolb list) for the many years (maybe 10 now?) of intelligent,
experienced, clever, witty, if not down right funny, contributions to this list.

there are several people on this list i've come to "know" mostly in an cyber
sense, except for mr. john hauck & mr. john williams whom i've met briefly
analogically speaking at sun n fun & reklaw, & to appreciate for their vast
experience with these lite home built aircraft, esp the kolbs, & their most
generous willingness to share "the whole picture", both "good & bad", that is their
triumphs as well as their missteps. this knowledge has been invaluable to me as
a potential home bldr& driver. I count mr bourne as foremost among these.

as for the kidding he takes for moving with care n caution, & with proper
priorities for other important agendas in his busy life, i relate all too well to
that. but without his inspirational perseverance, i might not now be actually
bldg my own kitplane. it seems i bought my boys a "folboat" way back in the
late 60s which we addressed with enthusiasm until we got the keel laid and the
ribs in place, but suddenly fell heir to a ready to float sail boat, at which
time we ceremonously hung the folboat from the garage ceiling with all parts
neatly stored for the time when we'd surely finish it. well 25 yrs later &
increasing grief from all who saw or even heard of it, esp my boys who began to
hear my early mutterings about bldg an airplane.

without mr bourne's example of pressing on in spite of serious obstacles
(having a prop fly off in one's yard if i recall correctly seemed not an
insignificant caveat), yet there he was day in & out, slowly but surely working his way
back from such a scary happenstance. so if he, why not me. i now feel like
the time is right & i'm working steadily myself just as is mr bourne. for
that i am deeply indebted to him and the other great folk who share with us all
 on this list.

if n when i ever get this thing in the air, i plan to seek out mr bourne
whereever he is and give him a demo (a ride may be pushing it; he is obviously a
very prudent and careful kind of guy). hopefully that will happen at one of the
upcoming MV outings which look n sound so great. (mr hauck & mr bourne have
always said that any & all are welcome ! even if they're astride something
other than one of homer's great flyers.)

so mr bourne, please dont let these bitter slings & arrows, probably driven
by jealousy, dismay or distract u from ur chosen path. some of us are depending
on u. (no pressure tho) btw: some guy bought the folboat when we had a
garage sale to move to a new house: came back 2 wks later with his "new" folboat
all done, shiny & seaworthy, to thank me for providing him with such a classic
 water craft!

& finally, congrats to the kolbers for another "monumental gathering" of
eagles recently. it seems to get bigger n better each year. i can hardly wait.

all the best ! john bowman, baton rouge, la-- about to start covering an
avid flyer from airdale LLC. (i'm already way past my folboat project! eh
 wot....)

				Man..........

I wish somebody would sling arrows against me so I could get some attention. I mean a man named "Lar" has got to be big, and I'm big. A man named "Lar" has got to be mean. I'm mean. A man named "Lar" has to be loving. ........

Well, I got a tear in my eyes! Does that count?
Lar, you beast, you got lots of love, and I ain't even met you yet!

Wish I had love, like Lar's got!

OHO Ralph, not to be construed with the other well loved Ralph on this site!

I suspect Lar created that fictitious dude, even opened a Matronics
 account in his name
just so's he could find out who loved him... hehehe

Since my entry precipitated all that calamity, here's an update:
The hiccup that got my attention was the hose blowing coolant on
my ignition parts. There would have been no indication of problems
before that event so I don't feel guilty about that.
I started looking for a decent nesting spot right away but didn't notice
the temp for about a minute. I didn't have a stopwatch going but
not a lot of time elapsed before shutdown. Yesterday I refilled it with
clean oil and ran it for a few minutes. -Seemed pretty smooth
on a pull through afterward. Compression felt ok.
It flew out ok, so there is hope, time will tell.
