Does anyone know of someone in North America who does monowheel transition training? My son would like to get checked out in my airplane, and I am not up to the job myself. On the other hand, it wouldn't make such a bad excuse for a trip to the UK...

Dave,
I am discussing the possibility of a friend of mine doing your son's checkout. He's the fellow who did the first flight of my Europa monowheel and he did several hours of dual with me as well. He's a 20 year Reserve x-Navy fighter pilot in F-8 & A-7 with 2 tours in Viet Nam and a long career as Captain for Southwest. He owns and flies a Bonanza, RV-7, Little Toot Sport Biplane & Stearman. He's the best pilot I have ever known. Only issue, you'd have to fly your son and Europa here for the checkout.
Are you interested?

Dave,
We worked with Randy Passeno here in West Michigan. Together we developed speeds, attitudes and power settings for consistent, controlled landings in our Mono.
Jim was already a named pilot on our insurance and they added Randy without any mono experience (he has lots of tailwheel time). That allowed him to give Heather dual in our Europa. He probably has about 20 hours in our mono now.
His contact info is:
