Thank you very much, David (Joyce), for the very comprehensive and well-written article on flying over water in the most recent issue of The Europa Flyer magazine.

 

Many valuable points regarding ditching and equipment that may save one’s life.

 

It makes landing in lakes and rivers appear much more “attractive” than before as an alternative to rocks and trees, provided a life jacket is worn.  I will definitely consider to wear it all the time.

Svein, Thanks for the kind words. A large study in the 

States had shown a mortality of landing in trees of around 

10% - that is much the same as their raw mortality for 

ditching, but there were understanably a lot more broken 

bones and wearing a lifejacket did not help much in the 

trees!
