Hi Bill,
Thanks for the info,
So take of should not be The problem. When you say 1500' landing distance, do you use 1500' for the rollout after wheels on the grass?

The main reason for testing out this is that for The last 5 years I have been in a "war" with neigbours and The goverment for creating a safe landing field of 2000'! It seems like I am losing that battle and have to use The 690' field! So then The big question is if we settle down with flying Super Cub or find Solutions for The Yak. Since I gone rebuild this Yak pretty mutch after it suffered a hangar roof collapse it might be intresting to find out what can be done with a 52!

From wheels touching to complete stop 1,500'. With practice and heavy braking you might get it down to 1200' wind, altitude and temperature can help or hurt. But let me reiterate my personal limit is 2,000' airstrips and I've been flying my Yak for 14 years.

Yes Havard I would like to know how your Yak performs once you get it flying. I,ve often thought about stripping mine out, I'd say I could get 240Lbs out of the Yak, but everything works just fine now.

Arresting gear is the shipboard system of cross deck pennants (wires) and arresting gear engines that wayward Naval Aviators attempt to snag with their tailhook while attempting to return to their perch.

Did I see in an earlier post that said the length of your runway was 690 feet with an upslope and a down slope at either end?
Don't think take off is going to be a problem. That even with assuming that your take off runs will be extended at first because of the uphill run to the crest of your runway depending the grade. Landings...well maybe you may want to make that runway more like 1500 feet at a minimum so you can have a margin of error.
Just my two cents.

Dale,
Please explain. You have a tail hook and arresting gear already installed on your 52 TW?
If so please post pictures. I am sure there are a few ol Naval aviators lurking on this list that would really love to see the mechanics of your arrangement. It bring back days of glory when they all sought the "3 wire" on their crash landings on the decks of their "boats".
We AF pukes on requested the "cable" when we had a hydualic system failure. Twice in my long and illustrious life was I in the "barrier".
Yes, Dale, I do believe the Naval crash landers on the list can help with this issue.

If you're looking for a major weight improvement , , the Orlov design bureau in Odessa can sort you out with a set of composite wings +7-4 g in the TD configuration. Same wing design only with slotted flaps on each wing with electrical multi position actuator. 90L per side with intergrated tanks .Standard yak air operated retractable gear. All in for around $26, 000.

Interesting. Bradly do you have a web address or an email address for them. Google gave me some interior design company in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks,
Doc
Dale was not trying to be a pompous American. The T-6 (SNJ) was fitted with a tail hook for carrier qualifications. That design capability could feasibly be engineered for the 52, not that I have any interest in that. Now the wings that Bradly spoke of has peaked my interest.
Thanks,
Doc

Interesting. Bradly do you have a web address or an email address for them. Google gave me some interior design company in Ontario, Canada.
Thanks,
Doc
Dale was not trying to be a pompous American. The T-6 (SNJ) was fitted with a tail hook for carrier qualifications. That design capability could feasibly be engineered for the 52, not that I have any interest in that. Now the wings that Bradly spoke of has peaked my interest.
Thanks,
Doc

If you're looking for a major weight improvement , , the Orlov design bureau in Odessa can sort you out with a set of composite wings +7-4 g in the TD configuration. Same wing design only with slotted flaps on each wing with electrical multi position actuator. 90L per side with intergrated tanks .Standard yak air operated retractable gear. All in for around $26, 000.

During a recent visit to the Ukraine , I visited his factory. Sergey (serge) is a graduate of the MiG institute in Moscow. He is a composite specialist .I have commissioned a set of yak composite wings from him, myself. I can vouch for him , he is a very demure quiet man with little to say but enormous experience.
