So what are the 'specs' for a good manufactured tie wrap, here's some (from eBay) - Yes or no

I don't think the UV issue is terribly important (how much direct sunlight does the back of an instrument panel, or an engine compartment actually see anyway?),

Agreed . . . plastics suitable to
our task are selected for their resistance
to environmental effects and age. "UV
resistance" is simply one data point indicating
that the manufacturer has taken the time to
produce a robust product.

I've had tie-wraps of unknown pedigree lay on
the self in dark, room temperature repose for
years become brittle with time alone.
Putting the least tension on them during installation
snaps the buckle off.

There are hundreds of sources for perfectly acceptable
tie wraps. We used them by the truck-load at Beech . . .
I don't recall seeing a craftsman use string ties during
my last years at Beech.

I'm sure the other guys in Wichita used them as well.
The take-away from this thread is KNOW where the
tie-wraps come from . . . a requirement impossible to
track from H.F. and sometimes difficult on eBay.

Caveat emptor . . .

Your first good vib comes from this supplier's
eBay rating and experience. 100% satisfaction
with 43000+ transactions.

The description speaks to 6/6 nylon as well
as enhancements specific to the goal of improving
performance. Bundlers of bulk tie wraps might
not even know of such details. If the offer
speaks to specific brands, so much the better.

This ad has the look and smell of a righteous
offer. I'd buy them even when postage to the
u.s. is 1.5x the value of the product. 200 wraps
for $17.00 total makes them about 9 cents each.

Yeah, I'm not sure I have any understanding of
how shipping costs are assessed. It costs more
to ship my books out of the country than the
books cost. I can order stuff off eBay for
a few dollars with free shipping from outside
the country.

A lot of Chinese goods not only are cheap but have free shipping worldwide. In fact the actual shipping costs are paid for by the Chinese government, it's a kind of hidden subsidy on exports.
