Hi All, 1. Does anyone have a good picture of the brakes and shoes from an 18T. I am having these rebonded and need a pic to send to the
Brake specialist I'm using here in Sydney? 2. If anyone has a new set
available I could be interested in purchasing. Also any new tips or tricks related to brakes and pad developments to reduce fading etc. that have not already been posted ? Thanks Andrew

Brake fading - Much of the brake fading issue is caused by two things
- squeezing the brake handle, holding it firmly and not releasing it until the a/c stops. This causes the brakes to heat up very quickly and thus fade. Try "pulsing" the brakes with the brake handle as you slow down the aircraft to a stop. This usually reduces the amount of brake fade because the brake pads don't heat up as much.
- glazed brake pads caused by grease from the inner/rear bearing. Once the brake pads get grease on them, the pads tend not to hold very well and our normal reaction is to hold the brake handle tighter and not pulse the brake handle. The grease on the pad is most likely caused by a broken or missing rear, felt grease seal. This is the felt grease seal around outside diameter of the inside of the brake hub which slides into the metal cup behind the large rear/inner bearing. Without that grease seal in tact, grease from the bearing spins out of the bearing and spreads all over the brake pads. Thus causing the brakes not to grab very well.

Brake fade is a problem faced by many people. Once I had to help a fellow in replacing his brakes in exchange for help in assignment and it was such a long and hard process. It was costly too and I did not know that at that time.

I’m impressed, I must say. Genuinely rarely can i encounter a blog that’s both educative and entertaining, and without a doubt, you have hit the nail on the head. Your concept is outstanding; the issue is something that too little individuals are speaking intelligently about.
