Rich,
My EIS tack seem to be steady and accurate up to 6400 rpm. Over that
it goes nuts and jumps to over 8000 rpm.

certain lack of precision here, but I think you get the general idea.

I am real close to Max speed with my Original Firestar I checked it last Sunday with0no wind and I got 84.7 MPH at 6000 RPM in level flight maybe if I remove the yaw string I will make 85 MPH But I don't think I will mess with anything else I like it the way it is

Hope throwing a Mark III into this discussion won't offend.

Finally got to fly the Mark III over T or C NM airport this morning. Here0 are the numbers: 532 engine time unknown, about 6-8 gallons of fuel, estimated (0 not always working gauge on one of two tanks indicated 1/4 full) and0 I am about 160 pounds, 7300 feet density altitude, full throttle was right at0 6250 RPMs, 50 mph air speed indicated with climb rate 500 feet per minute0 showing.

Cruise straight and level sorta, slightly over 70 mph, turning 6250 at 5,500 feet altitude indicated. Temperatures okay, but still have to0 replace one CHT sensor and some mismatched washers, one eraser rubber0 weird shock motor mount not Lord type and is on side where it probably doesn't0 do much, sort out some of the mystery wiring. Tighten passenger side door hook0 forward ... lot of drag there I am sure. Cosmetic need for better visibility0 through the abused plexiglass or lexan.

What about the climb and cruise? In the ball park? Feels like I0 have rigging close, finally, with help of a taped on rig aileron trim0 tab. Don't have to get cramps in arm pushing stick to the right.

Almost hands off for a minute or so today.

It ought to be doing a bit better than that. Stay at it, and a year from
now it will be doing 80+ at 6250, and climb will be at least 200 fpm
better. Congratulations on your progress so far.

My Firestar II is happiest in the 45-60 mph range. You can push it above that, but it doesn't fly as comfortably in the upper range near the red line - also the miles per gallon goes down at the higher speeds.

At 60 mph (5,000 ft density altitude), the 503 turns about 5,500 rpm. My bird is a stock open cockpit model with windscreen and no strut fairings.
