				Hello Kitfox owners and builders
I am the proud new owner of a very nice Kitfox V Vixon. I am having it transported, and need help to remove the wings for transport. If there is anyone that is familiar with removing the wings on this model so I can get it into an enclosed trailer I would like to talk to you. It is in the Atlanta area if anyone could help on Monday afternoon.
I built an Avid Flyer in 1987 and have been flying it ever since. I love the Avid, but want to move up to a newer faster type of plane without the losing the fun factor the Avid always has.
This forum has provided a lot of useful information and inspiration. I hope this Kitfox will keep me enjoying the thrill of flight for the next 10 years or more.
  Thanks,
  Mark

Mark I can tell you some of the things to be careful with. The fuel from
the tank and hose must not touch the window so have plans to plug both the
line and tank if cut or what is needed. Secure the flaperon so as not to
over rotate and damage where the hinges will hit the end of slots. I folded
the wings and hung from rafters in garage with a rope safetied to each spar
and a strap around wing near tip. Ropes to pull slightly away from
fuselage. Removed strut brace, all strut nuts, lower bolt, then upper bolts
to free the strut. The plane then rolled forward and left the wings
hanging. Two people make the job a breeze in a garage. Good luck and good
questioin as prevention is WAY better than the cure. Ron NB Ore

				Hi Mark,

To add another method, here is how I did mine for
 transport:

First, as was already said, use 2 people. Much less
 risk.

I leveled my plane, since mine is a tail dragger, but
you are ahead on this already.

Second, disconnect all flight control, fuel and wiring
 connections.

Third, I found that a padded step ladder fit under my
wings near the outboard end at a rib. Not sure if the
trigear will fit the same??? The taildragger gear may
 be taller.

Fourth, remove the lift struts being careful not to
damage anything top or bottom. Remove the bottom bolt
first, but leave in place. Lub the bottom for easier
removal. Undue the top bolts and be careful for wing
setteling. Make sure not to drop the strut and bend
the bottom tabs. The second person may need to lift
the wing slightly for strut removal at the top. Once
the top is disconnected, rotate the strut gently fore
and aft to undue the bottom. Don't poke your wing
 while looking at the bottom.

Fifth, undue the spar bolts and carefully remove the
wing with someone on both ends.

Nothing extra needed except the ladder and padding.

Make sure to have a place to lay the wing down. I
built 2 inverted "T" stands with padding for the wings
to stand on their noses on either side of the T. Just
strapped the wings to the T's.

Mark, I have no Vixen experience but did learn wing instilation and removal by the school of hard knocks building my classic 4. You probably already know this from your Avid building, but just in case, here's some things to think about.

It is very easy once you know how. At least one helper is a must. Two helpers is better. Proping the wing tip up before you start takes the strain off one helper.

Before you remove any strut or spar attach bolts or pins have the helper hold on to the wing tip and keep ahold of it until the wing is off the plane. It is hard to visulize what will happen when you start removing the attachment hardware. It can fool you and a wing can swing foreward or backward by suprise and you cannot stop it by yourself. Your hands will already be full.

I suspect the Vixen will stay upright on its wheels with one wing but be ready for it to tip to the other side when the first wing is removed.
