As I stated in a previous message I live only a few minutes drive to
Hurricane, Utah. Although I'm
new to the area I do think I can call a couple of people and find out some
specific facts.

I can tell you one thing, though. I worked outside all day moving some
garage and yard stuff to my storage unit on Saturday, and the weather was
absolutely beautiful...(it's like that almost every day!!)

ps. I moved some stuff to storage to clear my yard so that I can begin
construction on my "airplane shop". I am going to build a 20' X 44' shop in
my backyard. I also have to build my wife a pool. That's the deal...shop
for me, pool for her.

In case you aren't aware....St George is in the southwest corner of the
state. Near Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, etc. We're usually 15 degrees
warmer than the rest of the state. There are about 50% mormon people here
(they prefer to be called "LDS"'s). I'm NOT an LDS, but they sure are NICE
people!! They go out of their way to be friendly and help out!!

Hi Mike,
I am sure I will regret asking this but, what are LDS`s. Local Defence
Supporters? Lords Dam Surveyors? Huh?

As you are pretty close I suppose you will be at Monument Valley in May for
the Disorganised Annual Kolb Fly-In.

Cheers

Well, Pat,
After I got up off the floor from falling out of my chair laughing....LDS
stands for Church of Jesus Christ and the "Latter Day Saints". They
consider themselves "Latter Day Saints". I think that must be why they feel
the need to go door-knocking so strongly! They must think they're on God's
Mission....who knows?? Like I said, I'm not one, but they are good people!

Please tell me more about the Monument Valley Fly-In. Wasn't aware of it.
As I said, I'm new here.
I absolutely will be there, especially if I can fly my Cessna to it.

HI to all

I'm a newbie to this list and not a Kolb pilot YET! but I am
interested in the craft and hoping to learn as much
as possible so I know what to look for when the time is right to build
or purchase used...

I'm looking at the Kolb II so I can take up a passenger now and
then.... My wife at 4ft 11" should just fit Cool
Would also like to do some XC but do worry about using a 2 Cycle power
plant.... Whats the TBO and the reliability record
of the Rotax 503 I read 300 hrs but hear of it going much longer
before they blow.... I'm hearing it's the most reliable of
the 3 used but may not be the most Economical to run...

Coming from a GA back ground I'm very interested in performance
numbers for the Kolb II with a Rotax 503 at Gross
Does the UL community rely on or even use such info?

A little back ground history...... I hold a non current Private ticket
a little over 100 hours logged in c152 - c172
and Piper Tomahawks... Have been flying HangGliders for the past 20
years with over 1,500 hours logged in 14
different gliders ( Trainers, Tandems and High performance Wings... My
longest XC in a HangGlider is 81 miles
and my highest Altitude to date is 9,570 ft msl ... I've also logged 2
hours of dual in a Sail plane.....

Looking forward to lurking and learning from all of you KOLB Pros...

Mark Vaughn

Please tell me more about the Monument Valley Fly-In>>

Hi Mike,

other listers will probably give you chapter and verse on this.

Wendy and I are coming from the UK to have a holiday in USA and the hook
that I am hanging it on is the fly-in. I have never been before but from
what I gather from the general chat on the list is that anyone who can fly,
trail or visit Gouldings campground for the weekend of May 19/20th does so.
Listers begin to drift in around Thursday and they fly and talk etc. and
leave on Sunday. All depending on the weather etc. There is no formal
organisation.

I am flying into LA around 5th, spending a few days here and there, San
Diego, Palm Springs, Las Vegas, Bryce, Sion and going down to Santa Fe after
the fly in for a few days, then fly to Denver and then home.

I think most people use RVs or tents. Gouldings Hotel is, I believe, full,
but we have booked a cabin.

Cheers

Pat

hey pat if you have the time, as I know you will have the urge,as a glider pilot, to go to La Jolla, just north of San Diego and go to the top of the cliff overlooking the Pacific ocean just over "Black beach". You will be amazed.... if it hasn't fallen into the ocean yet. To anyone who appreciates challenging mother nature ... successfully, that is, the soaring done there is phenomenal.... if it is still going on, does anyone know?

George,
I was at the Torry Pines Rec area in June of 2006 and they had the para gliders running off the cliff and soaring as long as they cared to,then landing back where they took off. I think that is near Blacks Beach.
