Has anyone tried partial flaps on the 701 to shorten takeoff roll? Results?

Any amount of flaps will shorten the take off roll in a 701-801. I hardly ever use them on my 801. At the full flap setting the flaperons reduce ALOT of roll control and unless the wind is calm I will not use them, don't ask how I know... On a side note I just returned from OSH and met alot of nice fellow builders. Zenith builders dinner was good and the room was full....

				Chuck,
I use 1/2 flaps for takeoff from my grass strip, no flaps elsewhere. It does shorten the takeoff roll, not necessary from pavement.

Nearly always use 16 deg (full flap on rev-4 and later designs) for T/O and climbout as it gives better cooling and about the same climb rate (at) 50 KTs. Also at the point of liftoff the pitch up response is less pronounced.

				Ralph,

I used ZAC's 701 specs when I built my hanger. It turns out they had
 changed the landing gear
and so the rudder was a bit too high. I put a 2" block between the nose
 strut and nose
wheel fork. The tail now fits and there is a slight nose up attitude on the
 ground. I noticed
that the ZAC factory 701 pitched up at lift off too. I hold a bit of back
 pressure and my 701
lifts off smoothly with no ptich up.

I will try some flaps, thanks,
 Chuck D.

				Ralph,
Could you send me a picture of the "2" block". I am going to want to raise the nose wheel and put larger main tires on. The plane at this website http://www.qualitysportplanes.com/ has larger mains, I just need to figure out how to do it.
