A while back I tried to research the origin and original installation of this instrument. No luck. (Yes, I Googled... I haven't tried recently. )



  I will gladly send one like it, (I have more than one) to the person who can provide the most accurate information, such as age and what type of aircraft (if any) it was originally used in, for the cost of shipping only...a couple bucks at the most.



Web references will be a plus.



  It is a high-quality instrument, about a 1/2 pound or so, and very sensitive to pitch change on its longitudinal axis. The attached pictures show it both caged and uncaged.



  The pointers are adjustable via the knob in front, caging is done at the rear.



Just to keep the post KitFox related, let me say that I plan to (temporarily) replace my VSI with one just to see how it behaves in flight.

Steve, that is an inclinometer that is used as an early stall warning device.  If you do go past a certain angle of attack you don't fall out of the sky.  It was first used in under powered birds that did not have a power to weight ratio worth a whooey.  (the kitfox   has a much better power to weight ratio)

That picture is a match.  What is the purpose of such an instrument?  I'll take a wild guess at something to do with glider towing.

Certainly looks like some sort of attitude indicator  just wondering if the

two flat head screws on the back adjust the two bugs on the front dial.

Also is there an electrical connection on the back below where the picture

ends?



I don't think I'd use this instead of a VSI but it could be fun getting your

attitude right for landing.

I'll take a stab.

   

  I've seen some like it on e-bay. It's a WWII vintage (1943) inclinometer. Could have been used in any number of warbirds from that era but I'm sure I've seen them in B-24 panels.

Noel, (and all)

  Pitch attitude\landing...My thinking exactly...(in combination with PROPER airspeed )

 

    Here is a few pics of the instrument I will "try" in flight next. It has BOTH inclinometer and VSI function.(meters per second)

Same size mounting, metric installation screw threads.  The vertical tube contains amber colored liquid, somewhat viscous, for dampening the movement. The flecks behind the glass don't show up under normal lighting.

 

The only person who will get this one is the first single blond (female..., female, Leni ) who shows up at my doorstep with a Porsche.

 

Still waiting for confirmation on the Jeager instrument.

Looks like a pitch versus the horizon meter, a precursor to the angle of 

attack meter.
