Hi, Joe,
I had a couple of dents (minor) from the delivery of parts. I went to O'Reilly's and got a tube of filler glaze for the very small dings. I used a good body putty to fill around parts that I wanted to blend to a contour or just smooth around an add on such as the tail light. Lightly sand with 600 then 1000 before priming. Block sand if it is on a curve to hold the radius and not have a flat spot. It will be impossible to spot after painting.

I had the same problem. Recommend Poly-Fiber Superfil. Got mine at Aircraft Spruce. Strong, light and easy to work with.

Rick-
The question is, does the filler stay put? I've seen too many projects where the filler cracks and comes loose over time.

Well, hopefully the dents are not so big as to have a small bucket full of putty. I was referring to small dents. If you wish, let's call them dings. I think if you have big dents, it might call for some new aluminum. I used scotch brite to scuff the area (no, I am not going to tell you what color) and cleaned with lacquer thinner, then the glaze or putty. Some of these are years old and you still cannot find them. Hopefully, you never will!

Rick-
I'm not talking about filling potholes.
I built my outboards 3 years ago and was so disappointed with my tips I was ready to commit hari-kari. The gap between the aluminum leading edge and the fiberglass tip is what I'm talking about. The wing's in a cradle- took the picture laying on my side. The tips haven't been riveted yet, so the gap might decrease.
No matter the severity- what filler's going to have the best chance of staying put?

That does not look that foreboding. There is, also, a filler that has fiberglass strands in the mix. It is used just like Bondo or any of the other fillers, except it is a little tougher. If you use this, you should apply it by spreading it in one direction only, so as to "line up" the fibers for more strength. At least that is what I was told/ Seems to work pretty good. That area in your picture is not even close to being a moving or flexing part, so any of the fillers would probably do just fine. Just be sure to get it as smooth as you want the finished look. Any scratches will show in the final finish.

I think I have some of the stuff you're talking about, and if you don't get it right the first time it's stuck, and you're stuck because you can't sand it.

Well…..I can sand mine, so probably something a little different. If you cannot sand it, I would not use it! Frome way.

You bet, which is why I haven't done anything yet. I'm leaning towards the ACS stuff.
