Anyone up-to-date on how many kits have been sold thus far? I'm updating
the stats on my web site, adding a GlaStar section, and getting the shop
ready to begin the RV-10 wings, finally.

As soon as Scott Gustafson identifies the Pro Built serial number of
Steve Raddatz shop that he purchased, I will update your records. There
is also a Super RV-10 coming out of Medford, OR.

I believe that RV-10 that's in Medford belongs to ShowPlanes
http://www.showplanes.com/ click on their projects and you will se what
they are doing. They've made modifications to the cowl ( a streamline
'turtleback' and a new cowl, they also made some changes to the door
mostly cosmetic). They' bee very sucessful in their fstback kit for the
RV-8, and their flap position controller.

Yes it does seem to be the Super RV-10 is Bryan's latest creation from
Showplanes in Medford at the web address you included. It is
unfortunate that he has not shared his experience and opinions with the
rest of the email group up till now. Maybe he just respects the policy
not to promote commercial endeavors on our list?? Many RVs (6/7,8,9 or
Rocket) are found with a range of his production items. As the FAA
delays again the policy change on Amateur Built it would be interesting
to track all the Pro Builders around the world working on RV-10 mods.
It is about time for china to start knocking off VAN fab'ed parts with
quick build assembly to compete with the other Asians, Russians, South
Africans, Aussies and Yanks.

If only the canopy was Carbon fiber instead of "latest composite
technology and weighs 8 pounds more on top". I think that could be
"marketing speak" for more sanding, more dust, more cost.

Anyone want to take bets on the date in the future that the 1,000th
RV-10 kit is sold by VAN?

Hello all - I have kit # 40874. Started building just after Oshkosh this year, just finished elevators and moving on to the tailcone this weekend. I'm just beginning to think I might actually be able to build this thing! Smile
Better start keeping a log... Shocked

SO I guess there's no mystery in why our 51% rule is under review with posts like this. But hey, at least you can make money until it's taken away for good.

the 51% was legally challenged by Joe Bartells, attorney and owner of Lancair International because the FAA inadvertantly removed reference docs from the website. The FAA repented and extended the deadline to December 15th so Steve, Jesse, John and Joe could knock out some more non compliant Amateur Built Experimental Certificated Single Engine Land Aircraft.

I was actually surprised that Steve who has never posted a meaningful or useful idea would take my bait.

Let me ask this question, If I buy the kit, engine, panel and everything else that goes into finishing an aircraft with my money and name on everything and when its all done I put it up for sale, how does that differ from anyone else selling their aircraft. I have contacted the FAA and explained my process and they said I'm within the guide lines.
Now as far as meaningful post goes if I see something wrong or a question on either here or VAF that does not get an answer or the answer is wrong I email them the correct way and also give them my number. I really try not to compete with other poster's on the site's. Each site has their main poster's and I'm trying not to be one of them because they get a bad rap as a self proclaimed know it all. Yes, its true that I have built many planes and I have used every EFIS screen avaible and five different well known engine shops, three interior shops, four paint shops. With that being said I do what works and is the best bang for your buck, also which companies to stay away from, who delivers what they promise when they promise it. But each person has their own ideas and tastes and I respect that so I try and leave my comments to myself. If anyone has a question about anything with their aircraft feel free to call me 256-443-1915.

Ok, seeing how you and the FAA feel everything is just hunky dory with your venture (even though for some reason they are trying to redefine the rule rather than enforce it for once) exactly how many aircraft have you built in say the last 5 years? How long did it take you to finish the last one? How long will it take you to finish the current one?

Somehow I have a feeling these answers will give clarity to whether you are doing it for your own recreation and education and put any assumed perceptions to rest. I think quantity over time, along with intent, is generally the deciding factor on if you are different from anyone else.

what's the rush! Now that I'm doing the fiberglass I really look back on
those riveting days as fun, heck this whole building thing is fun and a real
blessing.. Now that I mentioned blessing, may everyone have a happy
Thanksgiving!
