These guys provide a first class training environment (for factory
approved training) towards the continued safe operation of the
Bombardier Rotax series engines. They are worthy of the cost they
charge. Having timely and accurate information enhances the operation
of a finely engineered powerplant.

I guess what I dont understand is why Rotax is not concerned that their
customers may not get a SB? I had a Rotax for six years and never was
notified about any changes etc. It was up to me to search them out. And
even then the SD were essentialy worthless as saying this is an issues to
bring it to a repairman. That was a bit too sketchy for me so I sold my
Rotax this last year. I have had a Jabiru for the past three yeass. I get
the SD mailed to me and they are very complete with schematics and
instructions either for me or for the repairman required to do the work.
I dont understand why there is a difference. I guess I am used to the
careful documentation required of the GA aircraft. I just could not deal
with the sketchy info anymore.
Enlighten me guys. Not trying to bash Rotax, just want to understand their
practices.
Thanks
Ivan

SB's are all still free. Just register and SB's will be sent to you automatically. The only thing that changed were the free videos.

I was fixin' to say...... Tried the other day to download an SB and had no problems with anything popping up and asking me to pay money... Yeah I think this just extends to the videos...

Roger what you say does seem to be the case.
It seems instead that ROAN's own website is intentionally misleading:
http://www.rotax-owner.com/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=160&Itemid=6
Look at the descriptions of what is claimed free and not on their own site.
Look at where technical articles lay. What is claimed to be free is
EMail notification of SBs, not the SBs themselves.
Perhaps this customer plundering is part of the new arrangement where
Rotec handles all "certified" engines and Kodiak now handles just the
non-certified engines. One might unkindly guess that people who will
pay several thousand dollars more for a piece of paper to accompany
exactly the same engine are ripe for plunder?

Ira, I looked at a couple of service bullitens with my free re-registration two days ago. The only thing that Rotax Owner appears to be charging for is there educational videos. This should be okay with everyone since you would have to pay for this kind of video from anyone else (Lockwuod, CPS, etc).
As for which product lines are supported by Rotec... Rotec is the Canadian distributor and Kodiak is the US distributor. Rotec supports the complete line of Rotax aircraft engines sold in Canada. Kodiak supports the comeplete line of Rotax engines sold in the US.

Hi Doug,
The videos were actually free for roughly two years.
As for Kodiak, if you look at the Rotax Owners site, they explicitly state that Kodiak only handles uncertifed engine sales and now Rotec handles
all certified engine sales in North America. Perhaps the site is in error?

Let me know please, not that I would consider buying a "certified" engine

I'm not sure how to feel about this, it's always nice when stuff is free.
The truth is that Rotax-owner.com is not actually BRP-Rotax. They are a
separate company. All the information that you may wish or want is still
available from the original source at http://www.rotax-aircraft-engines.com/
and can be downloaded without charge.
The clear separation of Rotax and the owner website is the endorsement of
the bullyhawk system. Rotax itself would never endorse a third party product
IMO.
Rotax-owner.com is creating some premium material with the videos and
notification and such and there is a cost associated with providing it.
It's up to the individual whether the premium material is worth the price, I
may give it a shot and see what they offer. At this time I can download all
the SB, SD, and factory documents from their site still and I am not even
registered let alone subscribed.

Well Ira, if you read that Kodiak doesn't deal in certified engines recently, then your information is likely more up to date than mine.
I would suspect that Rotech being the sole provider in North America for certified engines might be due to Diamond being the biggest user of certified Rotaxes. And since they are a Canadian company...
As for having the Rotax Owner videos available for free, that was pretty cool. I imagine that the guys who were selling videos were none too impressed that Rotec was giving them away for free. It figures though, just when I'm starting to set my engine up for first run, they make the videos a pay service. I'll probably end up buying one of the Lockwood or CPS videos (maybe both) to add to my collection.
One thing's for sure, Rotax Owner has stirred up lots of debate.

FYI,
Something I did not know about the R.O.A.N. website was it is not Rotax. It is an independent group. They get no money from Rotax. I guess that is why they needed money for the support services they provide.
