I need a bit of advice.

I will be shortly in need of an N-number for my Model IV project and for some reason, the N-Number inquiry site just won't work for me. No matter what I put into the search fields, I get "No records found for your request please try again".

  What am I doing wrong?

Sounds like you are asking the database to identify an aircraft assigned a specific number and you're getting back an answer that says there is no aircraft assigned that number. So it is available.

Thanks for the replies. I have tried it both ways. Using the inquiry page, I input the trailing characters, for example SM then the starting range 1 and ending range 9 and get the unavailable message. By randomly submitting the numbers 115SM, I find it is available, but I can't find it on the availability page. This is over several weeks and with two different computers.

Lowell, is this the page you are using?
 http://registry.faa.gov/aircraftinquiry/

 Click on N Number

 Enter the number you want.

One of two results will appear, "Assigned" or "Not Assigned/Reserved"

If "Not Assigned/Reserved" you will see the link to reserve it on line or by mail.

If you click the "On Line" option you will get a page with an option to request up to 5 numbers, Scroll all the way over to the right and fill in Just one of the five boxes with the number you want. That worked for me just now.

Try 40 thru 90. All the low numbers are probably taken. Thats what I ran into when I got my number. Had to go to 44.

				Ha!

Thanks, My simple mind said that if the starting range was 1 and the end was 9, I would get everything. Maybe everything was not what I really wanted.
