Does anyone have any information or advice on fitting the Singleton firewall mod? I do have a sheet of paper which I think I recall was from Graham but looking for any further information has drawn a blank and the information has disappeared from the LAA site as far as I can see.
There looks to be quite a bit of 'adjustment' to make it fit satisfactorily...
In particular a photo or two may help me avoid filing something off I shouldn't!
Thanks!
Bill

Graham,

Thanks very much! I should have asked you in the first place of course!
My hazy grasp of what fits where is partly a result of picking back up on the build after a long break....

Bill & Graham

This was written up by me as Standard Mod 11123 but is not on the LAA web
site (I have just checked).

The text is what Graham has sent with a few minor additions. I can send
Bill a copy if required.

I will chase it up with LAA

Hi Bill,
Perhaps these pix on the gallery link might help. I put sheet silicone, held with little stainless strips, around the holes cut for the engine mount. This provides a good seal around the tubes. There was a good deal of trimming with a dremel to get a good fit. I was going to use fire caulk around the seams but ended up putting insulation over the whole thing anyway so I ommited the sealant. Hope this helps.

I am now confused about the firewall, can I ask, is this for the tri-gear only, is it in addition to the Stainless firewall or instead of? Is it quicker or better?
Some people seem to have used adhesive backed foil sheet over the whole area including surround.
And the FWFD kit includes a quantity of firewall fabric, what is that used for.

I have ordered the engine and fwfd kit and just getting ready for them, I have the shiny firewall plates done.

I can't say if it works on the trigear or not. I don't see why not. I think it was designed for both but not sure. It is an alternative to making the stainless one. At first I thought it unuseable but I got to sanding and filing and am very pleased with the results. It is easily removeable after you remove the engine mount.

The Graham Singleton Firewall fits the XS Trigear. It did for mine anyway.

Graeme
it was designed for both mono and tri gear. Advantage was that all of the holes could be sealed which is almost impossible with the stainless one. It also offers a less draggy space for fast moving colling air to get out of the cowling. Cooling drag is a very significant part of total drag with an efficient airframe like the Europa. Holes are particularly bad, lot of drag plus they allow flames to get through.
Unfortunately I can't make them now.

Thanks Troy, That is very helpful and a good idea- the sheet silicone makes a nice neat job of it.
