Hello All.
I have fitted an MGI fuel flow meter with 2 sender on my 914,
The senders came with labels showing the k factor for a flow of 16 gallons an hour, did the conversion to ltrs per hour set them up but did not give the correct fuel burn ended up say calling for 12 lts and overflowing when 11 where put in.
I have them set Flow K 9100 and (Return K 9167 this was the original calculated figure ) so have only adjusted the flow sender.
The gauge called for 13 ltrs and I put 13 ltrs in and it was level with the filler cap.
In the cruise it was saying 15 to 16 an hour.
My Ipad comes in timing at speeds between 5 to 10 kts so take off to touch down, it read 57 minutes.
It all looks to mean a burn to me, but that what I put in the tank, and the ipad time gives me a 57 minute flight.
I will do more checks but.

Any comments

Alan

Hi All.
Did another check today, Air bourn times, 1.04 min and 1.32 min
total 2.36 mins or 2.6 hrs, took 38 litres to top up, so 14.6 average ltr/hr this dose not include the 30 min taxing around on the ground and doing the power checks.
Still can,t get the flow meter correct, it asked for 46 litres but I could only get 38 in the tank. So over reading by 8 litres on this occasion.

Hi ALL

Still have not managed to calibrate my flow meter yet,
But I can say having checked a few times, I get a full hours flying on 14 litres,
Start up taxy airborne for one hour land taxy refill 14 lts.
I think that's pretty good for a 914

What boost and RPM are you using to get that Alan?

Are you Mono or Trigear?

Hi Bill.
I am not sure Bill but it around 28 to 29, about 110/115 kts, Its a really good consumption, for a Tri Gear .Surprised me, must be a good engine 550 hours. Prop PV50.again I think it a good prop, As I have always said ,I it looks right it is right sod all the specifications.
I have flow 3 times all about 57, 61 minutes air bourn and refilled to the neck of the filler. I can not give you a cruise burn as I have not got the flow meter set up correctly yet. But I do know what I put in the tank to refill it.

Alan,

That sounds about right for the Europa. I don't usually fly so slowly but I checked yesterday and got the following:
MP 25,5
3000 ft
14 L / hr
115 Kt
Mono

The fuel flow takes some time to calibrate, it took me about 3 years to get it spot on.

Hi Barry,
That's pretty good. Mono,s are quit fast.
My figures are for a Tri Gear, with the speed kit on, and using MTOW
1370 Lbs so again a good burn
It will do 120 but 110 to 115 feels right.

Hi Alan,

as you know, I too have a Trigear with 914.

In the fast cruise at 125 KIAS MTOM (which is 656 kg for my dutch registered Europa) low altitude I burn between 19 and 20 l/h.

So 14 l/h at 110/115 kts is quite a good value Smile
