Guys,
For replacement parts for your Rotax, you may find my website quite useful.
Download the .pdf file from the techniques section with all the parts
suppliers for the Europa.
Perhaps someone in the UK could do the same for the UK owners and other
countries. Be my guess and copy it.
We just did a Classic using Stefan Ingemarsson's hoses and clamps.
Inexpensive and well done in comparison to Rotax.
See www.customflightcreations.com
I've also attached my drawing with cut dimensions for our 2 inch fuel filler
tube for the Classic. We also just make a 55 degree pipe for the XS. It
isn't rocket science just finding somebody to do a quality weld job. We
have S&S welding which has done fuel tanks, trailers, fuel tubes, brake
mounts, you name it and the welds are impeccable...
Regards,
Bud Yerly

Hello Graeme,
Things never happen fast enough, at least not good things!
It seems I am not the only person looking into finding a solution for the filler pipes, I have contacted Neville Eyre and the LAA on the subject and will follow up when I have something to report.
Presently about 10 people are interested.
Regards, John

Dear All, I have done further research regarding the manufacture of the Classic fuel filler pipes or "Cobra".
I must admit I am at a loss as to why the mod 1370 used aluminium 6063 T6 as it is a pig to bend. All of the companies I have contacted are not optimistic of the chances of success using this alloy and suggest 5754 H111 which is more malleable. It is generally used for shipbuilding, food processing and nuclear components. In this application it is a non structural component.
I know this might be a problem for UK based owners so perhaps someone would like to "sound out" the LAA about accepting the change of material?
For that reason (depending on the replies I obtain from this email) I will pursue a version using Al 5754 in 50 mm OD with a wall thickness of 2,5 mm which will weigh a little over 1 kg per cobra.
I have attached a plan that shows the finished dimensions the tube will have when manufactured (except the wall thickness which is incorrectly marked as 1.5 mm). The tubes will probably be supplied with the excess length required to bend the tube and will require cutting back to the right length to suit your aircraft.
The price per tube should be in the region of 250 Euro depending on the quantity, plus postage.
Seven people have so far shown an interest but only two of them were in the list that was drawn up in 2015 so there may be more of you out there!
Please PM if you are interested?
Regards
John

Hi John
Thanks for your efforts. I will drop Andy Draper an email at the LAA
and see what the response is to the change of material spec.

The material should be sourced as T0, formed and then heatvtreated to thevrequired temper.
2024 should be acceptable as a substitute. Temper to T42 post forming.
