I'm new to kitfox , Just purchased a kitfox 2 and I was interested in making the rudder and the stab taller to help the yaw ? I'm still in the stage of building before the covering. What is the thoughts has anyone done this? Also is there anyone in North Cal near paradise that I can see there kitfox and ask questions about building? [quote][b]

				Jerry,

I am in Cameron Park. Not too far from you as the crow flies. I have a
Model IV and would be happy to hook up with you. The models are different,
but I followed a couple of guys with Models I and II in my early building
 and it was helpful then.

Jerry welcome to the most fun you ever experienced, The Kitfox.
I have a Kitfox 2 N718PD , I have almost 700 hours on her now . Never have ever had one single problem with crosswind or adverse Yaw problems on takeoff or landing or just flying . In my humble opinion there is no need to enlarge the Vertical stabilizer or rudder .

Hi Jerry. Amen to what John says. The Model 2 is a sweet little airplane as designed. Just leave it alone and have fun!

The beauty of Model II is that it is light, can take off and land from very short fields, and has excellent cross wind handling as it!

Adverse yaw, what's that, oh! that's what makes the kitfox fun. Just build it and go fly it, after awhile you won't realize the airplane has the adverse yaw.

Gosh! Then I am not the only one to enjoy adverse yaw! I just love to
put my model 3 in a coordinated turn on one side, then to the other
side, using my feet to keep the ball in the center. I must have been a
horseman ... in a parallel universe!

 Cheers,
 Michel

I actually wish my Fox had MORE adverse yaw.

It is always fun to take a Cessna driver for a ride and let them fly to Fox
a bit. This is always a real easy way to pick out the tail dragger pilots
or glider pilots. It may take them a few turns to fine tune their foot
work, but at least they know what their feet are for.

I haven't flown a -2, but here is an idea:

I know that some others have added a center stringer
and fillet to the front of the verticle stab for
looks. I think this would also help with the
stability as well as make it look better.

Gap filling to the rudder will help and adding ribs to
the verticle stab will help too. That flat sided stab
wanders more than an aerodynamic airfoil and you might
gain an mph or 2 as well.

None of these things will require a lot of weight or
 changing to the basic plane.

Maybe someone can lend a pic of their top stringer and
fillet, or verticle stab ribs to assist?

I've got pictures of my vertical ribs, but the last time I tried to
post, the file was huge...could I send 'em your way, Kurt, and you
could post em? Each picture is about 56KB when I send via email. I've
got pics of several stages of the airfoiling process.

				Lynn and Michel,

My best contact for this is Michel, or Norski sailor
 and computer hacker....

Michel. Can you take Lynn's pics, reduce them and
post them to the old Sportflight site?

I made my verticle stab ribs by taking the one bottom
rib to a copy machine and making a copy of it before
installing it. Then I used the % reduction function
on the copier to make the other ribs to size. Cut
them from hobby shop plywood and that was that.

Unfortunately I will not be home to help with this for
over a week. Michel! Can you help?
